How does Browning Associates typically work with a client?
In keeping with our philosophy of "Total Development," Browning Associates most often enters into a long-term relationship with a client, generally focused on fundraising in some or all of its aspects but embracing other related functions as well. Routinely, two or more members of the firm will work with a client; this team approach assures that the client benefits from the specialized expertise that the firm has to offer.
What generally are Browning Associates' first steps in establishing a client relationship?
We recommend our undertaking two processes: an attitudinal and feasibility study and an audit of the development office. The former allows us to gain a quick understanding of our new client and its constituency and to evaluate fundraising readiness and potential. The office audit shows us where to direct particular attention as the relationship unfolds.
Does Browning Associates enter client relationships based on single, stand-alone projects?
Yes. Such specific assignments include helping with strategic planning, conducting board or administrative retreats, and organizing or reorganizing a development office.
What is Browning Associates' contractual relationship with clients and how are fees set?
Long-term relationships are established on a yearly basis, though they may be terminated by either party on a month's notice. These retainers, plus travel and other expenses, are billed monthly. We believe that the retainer arrangement best serves a client's needs and facilitates our building strong relationships with staff and volunteers. Fees for stand-alone projects are set in advance by mutual agreement.
Can Browning Associates provide such special services as writing and Web-site development?
We can offer advice on a variety of writing projects – appeals, proposals, reports, newsletters, magazines, view books – or, on a fee basis, actually do the writing for the client. We do not develop Web sites ourselves but can recommend firms that do.
